Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met on Wednesday with Bangladesh Foreign Advisor Iftekhar Chowdhury in Manila on the sidelines of the Asian Regional Forum.
Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi reiterated Beijing's support for Dhaka's proposed trilateral road link project, to connect Bangladesh, Burma, and China, said an official report.
Bangladesh has been looking for Chinese support financially and technically on the tri-nation road link.
The Foreign Minister said it is a 'constructive idea' that would encourage people-to-people contact. He also suggested that a tripartite meeting could be held after technical experts conduct a feasibility study on the project.
Bangladesh signed an agreement with Burmese Construction Minister Brigadier General Saw Tun in Dhaka on 27 July on the construction of the first phase of the road from Bangladesh's Godon Town to Kying Chaung of Burma.
The first section of the road will run 25 kilometers in length and will cost Bangladesh 21 million US dollars.
The second phase of the road will include a 110-kilometer stretch from Kying Chaung to Kyauktaw, a town situated along the Akyab-Rangoon highway, and will cost an estimated USD 102 million. However, there are no details yet on who will assist with the second phase of road construction from Kying Chaung to Kyauktaw.#
