
Dhaka: Arakanese communities in Denmark, Thailand, and Malaysia held ceremonies marking the 223rd anniversary of the fall of Arakan's sovereignty on 31 December, report the organizers.
In Denmark, the Arakanese community held a ceremony in the city of Ronne with about 50 people in attendance, including Danish, Arakanese, and Mon nationals.
The Dutch ceremony's organizer, Ko Khaing Myo Tun delivered a speech to attendees about Arakanese history and the loss of the kingdom to Burmese invaders.
Some Danish citizens also delivered speeches in the ceremony, vowing to cooperate with the Burmese people to achieve democracy in Burma.
In Malaysia, the Arakanese community also honored the 223rd anniversary of the fall of the kingdom of Arakan with ceremonies in several locations.
One Arakanese in Malaysia told Narinjara over the phone that the Arakan National Council (Malaysia - South) held a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, with many Arakanese attending.
The exiled community in Malaysia also held a ceremony in Batowo town of Penang on 31 December.
Arakanese communities in Thailand also held a ceremony at Phuket in southern Thailand, with about 150 people in attendance.
In Mae Sot, Thailand, many migrant workers and AASYC members donated blood at the Maydaw clinic as a way of honoring the kingdom that fell.
Many Arakanese around the world hold ceremonies marking the fall of Arakan's sovereignty on 31 December every year.
Arakan lost its sovereignty in 1784 after the Burmese king invaded and occupied the kingdom.
