Maungdaw: Three Burmese ministers told audiences of government officials and businessmen in the western border town of Maungdaw that Burmese people do not need to stage protests for democracy like Thai protesters who were in Bangkok demanding the resignation of Thailand's Prime Minister, reported a Businessman who attended the meeting on condition of anonymity.

"They pointed out the present situation of neighboring country Thailand and asked what's happening there. In Burma, they said people do not need to stage demonstrations for democracy in Burma; Burma will reach the path of democracy very soon," he said.

The comment was made by three government ministers at Thiri Mingla hall in Maungdaw during their trip to the western Burmese border to examine the trade situation with Bangladesh.

"I thought it was a message of the Burmese military government intended for those who are preparing to stage demonstrations in Sittwe against the military government," he added.

The three ministers who expressed the sentiment are Transportation Minister General Thein Swe, Business and Trade Minister Brigadier General Tin Hlaing Thein, and Husbandry and Marine Minister Brigadier General Maung Maung Thein.

The ministers came to Maungdaw along with Western Command Commander General Thaung Aye on Saturday and met with high officials and businessmen soon after their arrival.

"It is officially a trip to examine border trade with Bangladesh but they organized people to support the 2010 election. They told us in 2010 there would not be a military government in Burma and a democratic government will emerge in Burma that year. So people need to cooperate with the government make its road map to democracy a success in Burma," the Businessman said.

At the meeting the three ministers also delivered a message of gratitude to the people of Maungdaw Township for their support of the referendum for the new constitution drafted by the Burmese military government.

Moreover, the ministers discussed many issues at the meeting, mostly relating to the border trade with Bangladesh.

The ministers visited the newly constructed town of Taungbro, located along the western border opposite Bangladesh's Gon Don. They also looked at some parts of the friendship road that will connect Dhaka and Rangoon in order to improve trade between the two nations.
