Dhaka: Officials from Nasaka, Burma's border security force, and Bangladesh Rifles, BDR, met in a frontier area on the border On Wednesday to discuss some important issues.
The meeting is a zone-commander level meeting that was held on the Chakdhala frontier in Naikhongchhari Township, opposite of Burma's Maungdaw Township, in Bangladesh's Bandarban District.
According to the source, the two sides discussed the issue of Burma erecting a fence along the border.
BDR had previously lodged a protest with Nasaka for erecting a fence adjacent to the zero point along the border, in contravention of international boundary laws, BDR sources said.
Cross-border smuggling, the continued migration of Muslims from Burma, and maintenance of peace along the border also came up during the meeting.
During the meeting Nasaka handed over two Bangladesh nationals to BDR who had been held by Nasaka for the last six months, said sources.
A nine-member team from each side participated in the meeting.
Commander of the 15th Battalion of BDR stationed in Naikhongchhari, Lt. Colonel Shafiul Azam, led the Bangladesh side while Colonel Htin Lin led the Nasaka team from Burma.
