8 Political Prisoners Shifted to Remote Prisons

Dhaka: Eight political prisoners from Mandalay Obo Prison were removed to remote prisons over the last few days for unknown reasons, reports one family member.

Among the prisoners moved is Ko Myo Han, a Myingyan native who was shifted to Taungyi Prison in Shan State. Ko Myo Han was charged in 10 cases and sentenced to 51 years in prison.

Another three brothers and sisters from Nyaung Oo in Mandalay Division were shifted to Pakokku, Myintyina, and Shwe Bo. Of the siblings, Ma Cho Cho Than was shifted to Shwe Bo Prison in Sagaing Division from Obo Prison in Mandalay, while Ko Lin Aung Than was moved to Pakokku and Ko Myo Myint Than was moved to Myitkyina Prison in Kachin State.

Cho Cho Than was sentenced to eight in prison. Similarly, Myo Min Thant from was given 15 years and Kyaw Tun Linn was sentenced to 52 years in prison.

They were sentenced to serve the jail terms in prison in December 2009 for their involvement in political events. According to a source, the military authorities arrested them along with another 11 individuals for activities last September and October.

Many families of political prisoners are now anxious for their relative's well-being after the authority began shifting them to remote prisons.
