Sittwe: Two children were killed in a bomb explosion on Wednesday in a village located near the suburban area of Sittwe, the capital of Arakan state, said hospital and police sources.

An authorized person from Sittwe confirmed to Narinjara over phone that two Muslim children died in the hospital with severe injuries from the bomb explosion.

The dead were identified as Mamouk Tayard, 10, son of Mamad Rofi and Yazumusuta, 12, son of Adul Shoku. Both are from Tae Chaung Village, which lays under the Bu May village tract located 11 miles west of Sittwe.

The police officer in No 1 police station said that a bomb exploded in the village but he did not know any details of why the bomb was exploded and what kind of bomb was used.

“A group of police went to the village to investigate the bomb explosion but they have not returned yet. So we can not give any more details about why the bomb was exploded,” the police officer said.

A town elder said that the bomb was old and had remained in the village after Japanese forces left the village during the second world war. The bomb exploded when some children played with it.

According to local source, several people were also injured in the bomb explosion and many villagers are hiding out of fear they will be arrested by the authorities.
