Authority Collects List of Mosques and Religious Schools in Northern Arakan

The Burmese Military authority has recently compiled a list of all mosques and religious schools within three townships - Buthidaung, Maungdaw, and Taungbro sub-township - which are located in the north of Arakan State near Bangladesh.
According to officials, in Maungdaw Township there are 786 mosques and 633 religious schools; in Buthidaung there are 234 mosques and 191 religious schools; in Taungbro sub-township, the closest border town to Bangladesh, there are 10 mosques and 2 religious schools.
The reason for the authorities' collecting such information and compiling the list of Muslim mosques and schools in the three townships remains unknown. #
