Bangladesh is allowed to join the 13th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers' meeting in Kuala Lumpur from July 28.

Counter terrorism tops the agenda of the said consultation in Kuala Lumpur where Bangladesh is set to get an official berth in the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF).

Admission of Bangladesh as the 26th participant in the ARF was hailed and agreed by the ASEAN members in the 12th meeting of the ARF held in Vietnam in July last year.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan will lead a Bangladesh delegation in the 13th meeting of the prestigious ARF. A senior official of the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry said, "It’ll be a new horizon for us".

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is scheduled to participating in the meeting also.

The ARF came into being in 1994 drawing together 25 countries that have a bearing on security of the Asia-Pacific region and became the principal forum for security dialogue in Asia.

The ARF meeting is intended to encourage dialogue and consultation on political and security issues of common interest and concern in the Asia-Pacific region.

Participation of Bangladesh in the upcoming meeting is significant from strategic point of view as Burma is the only ASEAN member bordering with Bangladesh. #
