Following reports that the US Army and Air Force had conducted training for the Bangladeshi army in Cox's Bazar, a town adjacent to the Myanmar border, local news sources in Bangladesh stated that the training was solely for Bangladeshi firefighters.
According to Cox's Bazar News, the four-day training held from May 18 to May 21, 2025, at the beach in Cox's Bazar, consisted of 15 officers and firefighters trained by nine personnel from the US Army and Air Force.
"With help from the US Embassy in Dhaka, the US Army and Air Force trained fire and civil defense personnel in Bangladesh," stated Md. Tanharul Islam, the deputy director of Fire and Civil Defense in Cox's Bazar.
The training covered methods for saving individuals caught in floods, tidal waves, and cyclones, along with techniques for drowning rescue.
"The training was carried out under the direction of senior officials. At the conclusion of the training, certificates were handed out to the trainees," remarked Tanharul.
The Cox's Bazar News did not report any training given to the Bangladeshi army by the US Army and Air Force.
Intense clashes are occurring in Rakhine State between the AA and the forces of the Myanmar junta. According to military sources, AA currently controls three-quarters of the regions in Rakhine State and is expected to capture the entire state shortly.
There are also claims that the US military is allegedly training a minimum of three battalions of the Bangladeshi army to offer military support to the Arakan Army (AA) and the Chin National Army (CNA), which are engaged in conflict with the Burmese military regime.
