The Bangladesh government has instructed its ambassador to Myanmar, Md. Monowar Hossain, to return to Dhaka immediately, the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry confirmed on May 27.

The recall of Ambassador Hossain follows heightened diplomatic tensions between Myanmar and Bangladesh, the two neighboring countries, due to his interactions with the Arakan Army (AA), as reported by Banglanews24.

The issue arose after the Myanmar junta filed an official complaint with the Bangladesh government regarding interactions between Bangladeshi officials and the Arakan Army (AA), which governs nearly the entirety of Rakhine State, according to diplomatic sources.

The issue of relations between the Bangladeshi government and AA was highlighted when Bangladeshi National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman disclosed that officials from the Bangladeshi government had engaged in communication with the AA.

In reply, the military council headed by leader Min Aung Hlaing submitted a formal protest letter to the Bangladeshi government in Dhaka, voicing its displeasure regarding the event.

Bangladeshi Ambassador in Myanmar Md. Monowar Hossain Hossain has held the position of Ambassador to Myanmar since August 2023.

Earlier this month, Brigadier General Aftab Hossain, the military adviser at the Bangladesh embassy in Yangon, was urgently recalled, and no new appointment has been made to occupy the vacant position.
