At midnight today, the junta carried out an airstrike on Kyaukphyu township in Rakhine State. A local news story claimed that the Kyauk Pyauk monastery complex was completely destroyed in the attack, which also left a 20-year-old man and a 93-year-old monk hurt.
The wounded monk is a 93-year-old man from Zai Chaung village who was residing at the monastery in order to escape the war in his hamlet, while the young man is a general laborer at the monastery.
The young man in his twenties suffered shrapnel wounds to his back, but he is not in danger, according to the monk, who was struck in the left and right forearms.
"A jet fighter carried out the strike at around 12;10 at night. A young man who was performing the monastery's duties and a 93-year-old monk who was escaping the war were both hurt. The temple and the walls of the monastery were totally destroyed," he said.
The residents of Kyauk Pyauk village are claimed to have been escaping ever since the military council and navy bombarded it on July 15 with heavy weaponry; thus, the air raid did not harm anyone.
The junta plane's two bombs caused harm to the monastery as well as surrounding residences.
“Fortunately, there was no one in the village since the attack began in Kyauk Pyauk. As a result, none of the villagers suffered any harm. A motorcycle and an automobile that were parked inside the school were also harmed,” he stated.
A local woman stated that the junta's navy bombarded the neighborhood on July 15, demolishing around ten homes.
“The navy shelled about 10 houses before the plane arrived. The village is now uninhabited," she stated.
With the army, navy, and air force, the junta is protecting Kyaukphyu, where the battle is still raging, and launching sporadic offensive actions. Tens of thousands of residents have been compelled to leave Kyaukphyu due to the continuous violence that has been occurring for months.
