Reports of the resumption of tin manufacturing in the self-governing Wa region have caused Myanmar's tin prices to drop to a three-week low.

According to BETV Business News, tin manufacturing in the northeastern Wa area of Myanmar is expected to restart in the next few months after a hiatus of almost two years.

The price of tin dropped to a three-week low on Wednesday due to traders' predictions this week that mining may start again.

On the London Metal Exchange, the price of tin dropped 1.6% to $32,775 per metric ton, which is its lowest level since June 25.

With 70% of its tin exports coming from the Wa region, Myanmar is the third-largest tin producer and exporter in the world.

In an effort to safeguard its mineral resources, the United Wa State Army (UWSA) halted all tin mining operations in the Wa area in August 2023.

After a two-year break, tin shipments from the Wa Autonomous Region in northeast Myanmar are anticipated to resume, according to the International Tin Association (ITA).

Tom Langston, the International Tin Association's Senior Market Intelligence Analyst, stated, "The movement of equipment and personnel is still subject to a great deal of uncertainty."

According to customs data, Myanmar's tin ore exports declined by more than half by 2024
