Myanmar BGP opens fire on Bangladeshi fishermen in Naf River

One of the fishermen went missing during the incident

Myanmar’s Border Guard Police(BGP) opened fire on two fishermen in the Naf River of Cox's Bazar’s Teknafupazila on Wednesday.

One of the fishermen named GuraMiah was able to return but another named Md Ilias, 40, is still missing. Bothare from the Huaicheng Balukhali area.

The incident took place on theBangladesh-Myanmar border of the Naf River, said Lt Col Sheikh Khalid MohammadIftekhar, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh’s (BGB) Teknaf-based 2ndBattalion.

Ilias’s brother Shamsul Alam saidthat the two fishermen went fishing on Wednesday morning.

When they reached the Myanmarborder, the BGP opened fire on them. At that moment, Ilias screamed anddisappeared into the river.

Gura Miah fled the scene fearinghis life. Later, Gura and Shamsul informed the BGB in Teknaf about theincident.
