UNITED NATIONS, July 27(Reuters) - The U.N. Security Council on Wednesday condemned the execution offour democracy activists by Myanmar's ruling military and called for therelease of all arbitrarily detained prisoners, including President Win Myintand leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
Ina statement approved by all 15 members, the council called for dialogue andreconciliation "in accordance with the will and the interests of thepeople of Myanmar," an immediate halt to all violence, respect for humanrights and full aid access.
The Myanmar military,which seized power in a coup last year, announced on Monday it had executed theactivists for aiding "terror acts" by a civilian resistance movement,Myanmar's first executions in decades. read more
Themilitary on Tuesday defended the executions as "justice for thepeople," brushing off a deluge of international condemnation, includingfrom its closest neighbors. read more
