UPDF member killed in a gunfight in Bangladesh

A suspected member of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) was killed reportedly in a gunfight between the members of UPDF and joint forces in Kichingchara of Langadu township of Rangamati district early Thursday.

The Bangladesh Army conducted a special operation in the Perachhara area of Naniarchar Upazila in Rangamati district, based on intelligence information at 5:50am on Thursday, said a media statement.

During the operation, the army uncovered a secret hideout of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF).

As the Army initiated a search operation, the miscreants, realizing the presence of the forces, opened fire.

In the ensuing gunfight, one member of the UPDF was killed, while several others were injured and fled into the dense forest.

Subsequent searches of the hideout led to the recovery of an assortment of items, including one M-16 assault rifle, two rounds of MG/sniper ammunition, 90 rounds of rifle ammunition, one walkie-talkie set, 12 mobile phones, and various other equipments.

The army has continued operations to locate and apprehend the fleeing terrorists.
