174 people infected in 11 days in Rakhine

Ministry of Health and Sports announced today 70 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, 69 of which are in Rakhine State.

In the 11 days between August 16 to 26, 174 people in Rakhine State have tested positive for the virus. Prior to August 16, sixteen people had been discharged from hospital.  In total, 190 people in the whole state have been infected between 18 May and 26 August 2020.

Of the 174 patients, 111 are from Sittwe; 11 are from Mrauk-U; 2 from Thandwe; 4 from Buthidaung; 13 from Pauktaw; 4 from Kyaukphyu; 5 from Minbya; 1 from Ponnarkyun; 6 from Myebon; 13 from Maungdaw and 4 from Kyauktaw.

Among those infected in Rakhine State include health workers, monks and children. However, no deaths have yet been reported, the health ministry said.

The Ministry of Health and Sports has also announced that stay at home measures would be enforced in five towns including Sittwe, Taungup, Thandwe, Kyaukphyu, and Ann.

574 people in Myanmar have tested positive for the virus of which six have died. A total of 147,820 people have been tested while 331 patients are recovering.  7,311 patients are under observation.
