China to provide 200 million yuan for socio-economic development in Rakhine State

China will provide 200 million yuan to the Myanmar government to support socio-economic development for the people of Rakhine State.

Visiting Myanmar this week, Yang Jiechi, head of the Chinese Communist Party’s political affairs office made the remarks during a meeting with State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi on September 1 at the Presidential Palace Diplomatic Lounge in Naypyidaw.

During the meeting, Yang Jiechi offered continued support to Myanmar's efforts to resolve Rakhine issues and would continue to support a successful resettlement process. He said there would be continued support to Myanmar regionally to promote closer cooperation in the international arena, including the United Nations, according to state media.

On September 1, Yang Jiechi met with President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Win Myint, State Counselor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and the Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Army, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, in Naypyidaw.

"China wants to implement the important agreements reached between the two leaders with Myanmar and build a mutually beneficial community of China and Myanmar, through thick and thin, and enhance high-level political relations between the two countries," said Yang Jiechi.

The Sino-Myanmar Economic Corridor project will be actively promoted and the level of bilateral trade and investment will be enhanced. He said he would step up business cooperation and build high-quality joint ventures between the community and the Silk Road.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Burmese diplomatic relations and the year of Sino-Burmese cultural tourism. He said China would like to share the vaccine with Myanmar as a priority if it succeeds in researching and developing the vaccine.
