The Tatmadaw has released 14 fishermen, detained from Da Lat Chaung and Shan Kone villages under Ann township of Rakhine State. Among those released yesterday afternoon, twelve individuals hail from Da Lat Chaung, informed an abbot from Dalat Alay Ywa village.
“They returned back yesterday. No torture and injuries were alleged by them. It seems that the fishermen were asked by the army officials about the situation of the areas,” added the abbot.
The released fishermen from Da Lat Chaung include U Htay Maung (43), U Nyi Nyi Aung (35), U Lin Wai (37), U Kyaw Htay Hlaing (35), U Tin Shwe (30), U Nyi Thein (30), U Nyi Win (33), U Maung Kyi Than (28), U Khin၏Maung Myint (30), U San Win Maung (40), Soe Min Htay (25) and Soe Min Khaing (20).
The released Shan Kone villagers are yet to be named.
All of them were arrested by the security forces from their villages on 20 October when they were fishing with small boats.
According to the Rakhine human rights defenders and Promotes Group, there are around 30 people still untraced after their arrest. Among them there are 18 persons from Tinma village under Kyauktaw township, who were arrested by the army during March this year.
