The military council has fined another Rakhine woman for voting twice in the last national election held in November 2020.
The Yangon-based lady has to pay Kyat 100,000 for the offence. The authority has thus tried to prove the last general election as a rigged one.
The 28-year-old lady named Ma Win May, who was fined by the Shwepyithar township court on 21 February, is a resident of ward 8 in the township.
Ko Min Soe Min, a Rakhine social welfare activist, informed that though Ma Win May is a native of Ponnagyun township in Rakhine State, she voted in Yangon. She was fined under section 171 (f) of the Penal Code for electoral fraudulences.
Another Rakhine woman named Manan Soe, who voted with Ma Win May, was also fined Kyat 100,000 by the same court on 9 February.
At least three Rakhine women in Yangon were charged with two counts of voting in the polls, where two of them were sentenced and the other one is out of the country.
Daw Ma Sein (50) from the airport area of Ann township in Rakhine State was also fined Kyat 100,000 by the Ann township court on 9 February convicting them of double voting in 2020 polls.
It may be mentioned that the current military council had overthrown the NLD government led by Aung San Suu Kyi on 1 February 2021 with the allegations of electoral fraudulence in the last national election and seized power.
With an aim to establish their allegations, the military council has started identifying the double voters and also fined those electorates.
