Boatmen returning from Bangladesh test Covid-19 positive

Three boatmen, hailing from Arakan’s capital Sittwe, tested Covid-19 positive
after their trip to Teknaf port of Bangladesh.
U Tin Aung Oo, chairman of Rakhine State Chamber of Commerce and Industry,
informed that the boatmen transported Burmese goods to Teknaf port and on
their return to Sittwe they were found corona positive.
As many as 55 sailors returning from Bangladesh were quarantined and among them
three tested positive on 4 July.
Presently, they are kept separately in Sittwe general hospital. Those
who came in contact with them are also advised to test for the virus
infection.
In May and June 2021, six boatmen at Shwe Mingan border trade post tested
Covid-19 positive after their return from Bangladesh.
In Rakhine State, a total of 4,264 Covid-19 cases were reported out of whom
37 people succumbed to the corona virus infection.
