Unexploded torpedo found on Man Aung beach of Rakhine State

On themorning of 13 July, the locals found an unexploded torpedo on the beach nearMinma Kywe Village under  Man Aung township of Rakhine State.

Thevillagers found the torpedo with the words ‘D&P Torpedo’ written on it.

MinmaKywe village administrator said that it is around 9 feet long and  3feet in circumference. Officials are currently investigating the piece andhow it reached the coast.

Localshave speculated that the torpedo may have been used by the Burmese militarypersonnel as training equipment in the naval exercise during 1 to 5 July.

Someexperts argue that the torpedo is made in India and the Indian Navy oftenuses the LWT-XP light torpedo. The Burmese military has launched aninvestigation into the matter.

 Itmay be mentioned that from 1 to 5 July, the military council conducted a navalexercise in the Rakhine coast with several warships including two submarines,one of those was bought from India. The military exercises were conducted witha number of warships.

Myanmarmilitary chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing also visited the exercise on 5July.
