The ongoingnight curfew under the 144 section (of Criminal Code) has been extended toanother two months in Kyauk Taw township, where the military tension increasedbetween the Burmese military personnel and Arakan Army members in recent days.
Thecurfew is extended till 2 October, said anotice issued by the township administrator U Kyaw Swar Nyunt on 2 August.
Underthe restriction, none is allowed outside of their residences from 9 pm to 5 am.The markets along with the restaurants will also be closed during the period.
Thenotice revealed that there are apprehensions of a disturbing law and ordersituation in Kyauk Taw township and hence the night curfew has been extendedfor two more months.
AKyauk Taw resident alleged that the night curfew has increased theirtroubles as they have to come back home from the workplaces a little early. Heexpressed resentments that during the period, when the military personnel werefighting against the AA members, no night curfew was imposed.
"9o'clock in the evening is early in the city to wrap up work. We have to lose alot of things because of it. I did not like the decision to extend nightcurfews,” he added.
Theruling military council has expanded its security network to various parts ofRakhine State and started inspecting the guest lists regularly. A number of AAsupporters were also arrested during the raids.
Thenight curfew is reviewed and issued in need every two months in several Rakhinetownships like Buthidaung, Maungdaw, Phonna Kyunt, Rathedaug, Kyauk Taw, MraukU, Minbya, Rambre and Ann.
