Ann villager arrested for suspected trafficking of Muslims

Narinjara News, 11 August  2022

The Burmese military junta forces have arrested one villager from Ann township suspecting his role in illegally transporting Muslim people from Rakhine State to Burma proper.

U Maung Tin Ohn (alias) U U Oh (55 years old) was picked up from Tan Chuang village, 9 miles south of Ann, where the western command is stationed.

U Thein Naing, the village head, informed Narinjara News that about 40 members of the junta forces arrived at his residence at around 10 am of 9 August and arrested him.

"The soldiers alleged that Maung Tin Ohn is involved with the illegal act of sending Muslims from the Rakhine villages to Burma proper.  But I know he is not involved in any kind of trafficking,” he added.

A family member admitted that they are worried about Maung Tin Ohn as they have no information about his whereabouts.

"They didn't inform me where he is being kept. They only said that he would be released after a few days. But we can not believe them (soldiers),” he said.

It is reported that Maung Tin Ohn is a farmer, who worked in the mountain near the village with his family members. Their village supports about 100 households and most of the residents are farmers by profession.
