Arrested 3 Kyauk Taw people killed by junta forces

Narinjara News, 21 August 2022

Myanmar junta forces have killed three people, including a resident of Tharat Tapin village, who were arrested on 1 August near the historic Maha Muni pagoda in Kyauk Taw township, 80 miles north of Rakhine State  capital city of Sittwe.

"They were arrested and brought to the brigade by an army vehicle. They were unconscious. They were even thrown into the car by their legs. The soldiers had beaten them after their arrest,” said a close to the junta forces.

Locals informed that one of the arrestees was U Maung Sawtha from Tharat Tapin village and the other two may be members of Arakan Army.

They were beaten by the soldiers with their guns just after their arrest from the pagoda locality, where the junta forces are stationed.

A shopkeeper near the pagoda informed that all three individuals were taken to Saka Kha (9) headquarters. They died in the interrogation cell about 2 days later.

U Maung Sawtha's wife Daw Ma Aye Khin stated that she is worried about the news.

"I heard that he died. But he was an ordinary citizen. The authority should inform us of the time of death so that we can follow religious rituals,” she added.

She asserted that the military authorities have broken the laws to inform the family about the demise of an arreste

In Rakhine State, the army personnel had recently arrested about 100 local people alleging to be related to AA. Normally the arrested people are brutally tortured during the interrogation. Many of them died and some were hospitalized.

Ko Kyaw Win Hlaing (32 years old) from Kyaukraz Kay ward under Mrauk U city, was seriously injured while facing the military interrogation. He is charged with section 505(a) under the sedition law. Currently he is receiving medical care in Yangon general hospital.
