A two-wheelerdriver from Thein Than village under Sittwe township of Rakhine State wasarrested by the junta forces on 22 August suspecting his links to the ArakanArmy, said a family member.
The familymembers of U Maung San Win (about 50 years old) informed Narinjara Newsthat he was arrested from the military checkpoint at the entrance of thevillage, while he was returning from Toe Kan village in the evening hours.
"The villageadministrator told us that he was arrested by army for on suspicion of linkswith the AA," they added.
His daughter, atenth-grade student, however asserted that he was no way connected with the AA.
"My fatheris a farmer only. He was busy with field work. After his work, he oftendelivers alcohol to customers,” she added.
She claimedthat they have no idea where U Maung San Win is kept. He has his wife and oneyoung son besides the daughter in the family.
A sole bread earner for the family, U Maung San Win is suffering from diabetics andhigh blood pressure.
Currently, theRakhine State is facing conflicts as the AA and soldiers are fighting in variousplaces. Many innocent civilians are arrested by the authorities for suspectingtheir associations with the AA. No less that 50 people have beenarrested and charged under sections of the law.
