A 60-year-old Rakhine woman was killed on the spot when anartillery shell exploded inside Min Gyi village under Maungdaw township, awestern Mynamar town bordering Bangladesh.
At around 9 am today the shell exploded which killed Daw MaeTha Sein.
A female teacher who took shelter in a monastery informedthat the explosion took place at 9:10 am in her house.
“I don't know from which side it was shot. No other peoplewere injured. Now the entire village is deserted and most of the villagersarrive in the monastery,” she added.
The Burmese forces and Arakan Army members have beenfighting fiercely in the areaof Maungdaw Township since 26August. Khamong Sit area, where an army strategy unit is stationed in the northof Maungdaw township also witnessed a battle.
The border guards of Kyin Chaung camp have been firingartillery shells to prevent AA members.
"The children in the camp are crying as they arehungry. The electricity in the village was cut down and the telephones went outof order,” said a local teacher who is taking shelter in the camp inside themonastery.
The ongoing conflicts between the two armed forceshave compelled over 1000 villagers to flee their places for some saferplaces.
