A policeinspector from Sittwe number one police station was shot deadby an unknown assailant at around 6:30 pm yesterday in front ofthe mortuary near Sittwe city public hospital, said aneyewitness.  

Thewitnesses added that the officer was shot dead while hewas waiting on a motorcycle along with his family.

The victimhas been identified as Thit Pan, a well-known police officer amongthe people, who was immediately taken to the hospital, but the doctorsdeclared him brought dead.

A civilianinformed that the victim was waiting to cross the traffic lightnear Sittwe hospital and suddenly the gunman arrived thereto fire on him. Probably he died on the spot, addedthe civilian.

“Hearingthe sound of gunshots, the local people ran away from the place.I don’t know the shooter, but only I can confirm that the officer sustainedinjury on his head. He fell down on the spot,” added the informer.

His wifeand daughter, who were with him, were notharmed. His body was sent to the morgueafter the doctor's examination.

Earlier on29 June 2020, police sergeant Maung Maung Than was stabbed todeath by the miscreants. The officerfrom Sittwe city police station was targeted nearhis Sittwe residence in the evening hours and he too diedon the spot.

Nowthe security arrangements have been tightenedin various areas under the Sittwe city afterthe murder of the police inspector.
