Police inspector shot dead in downtown Sittwe of Rakhine State

A police inspector from Sittwe number one police station was shot dead by an unknown assailant at around 6:30 pm yesterday in front of the mortuary near Sittwe city public hospital, said an eyewitness.  

The witnesses added that the officer was shot dead while he was waiting on a motorcycle along with his family.

The victim has been identified as Thit Pan, a well-known police officer among the people, who was immediately taken to the hospital, but the doctors declared him brought dead.

A civilian informed that the victim was waiting to cross the traffic light near Sittwe hospital and suddenly the gunman arrived there to fire on him. Probably he died on the spot, added the civilian.

“Hearing the sound of gunshots, the local people ran away from the place. I don’t know the shooter, but only I can confirm that the officer sustained injury on his head. He fell down on the spot,” added the informer.

His wife and daughter, who were with him, were not harmed. His body was sent to the morgue after the doctor's examination.

Earlier on 29 June 2020, police sergeant Maung Maung Than was stabbed to death by the miscreants. The officer from Sittwe city police station was targeted near his Sittwe residence in the evening hours and he too died on the spot.

Now the security arrangements have been tightened in various areas under the Sittwe city after the murder of the police inspector.
