Kyauk Taw resident hit by landmine explosion, loses one leg

A localresident ofKun Own Su village under Kyauk Taw township has lost his right leg as hefaced a landmine explosion.

The injuredperson is identified as U Ba Shwe (47 years old). He was injuredby the landmine while collecting bamboos on themountain range of Kun  Own Su village at around 4 pmon 8 September.

U Maung BaSein, elder brother of the injured person, informedthat currently he is under medication atYeo Tayoke hospital.

The doctors stated thatU Ba Shwe will have to lose his right leg as it wouldbe amputated above the knee. U Ba Shwe is the sole bread earnerfor the family having his wife, two sons andthree daughters.

Earlier on5 August, a man from Myit Na village under MinPya township had to lose one leg in a mine blast. He was collectingfirewood in a mountain where a army battalion was stationed and unconsciously puthis leg on the landmine.

On 29 August, anotherindividual from Maungdaw township also sustained injuries as hefaced a landmine explosion.

 

Accordingto the Rakhine Ethnic Tribes Association (REC), at leastseven people have died, and 20 others wereinjured due to landmine explosions since January to July2022 across Arakan.
