Military council delegation led by Lt Gen Phone Myat visits Dhaka, discusses with Bangladesh chief of the defense staff

A three-member Myanmar military council delegation led by lieutenant general Phone Myat met with theBangladesh chief of the  defense staffgeneral SM Shafiuddin Ahmed at Bangladesh Army Headquarters on 26 October last.
Both the generals discussed various issues related to the development of military ties between the twoneighbouring countries including the exchangeof high-ranking military officers. Phone Myat urged the Bangladesh authority to cooperate in joint natural disastermanagement
and sharing of relevant information.
SM Shafiuddin Ahmed raised the issue of refugees from Myanmar and opined that the long-term detention ofa large number of Rohingya refugeeswould create security threats in future. He insisted on the Muslim refugees’ speedy return toMyanmar.

He also urged the Burmese authority to be cautious while conducting military operations inthe

border areas.
The Myanmar delegation expresses its concern for the development and security of their country and expressedinterest in solving bilateral problemsthrough dialogues.
Phone Myat is the commander of the number 3 special operations group and in command of the operation inRakhine State since the beginning.
In the press release, issued by the ISPR, there is no mention about the Arakan Army and also ongoing armedconflicts in the Rakhine border.
It is hoped that the engagement would help in enhancing the relationship between the two countriesas well as the government armed forcesin the coming days.
