Narinjara Nes, January 17, 2023

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that roof shelters, winter equipment, personal items, masks, kitchen utensils and other necessities were provided to 2800 people in Buthidaung Township on January 10th.

In the statement dated January 13th, UNHCR described the process of distributing such aid. In addition, the statement said that similar supplies will be distributed widely in some areas in Rathedaung township next week.

UNHCR and partner organizations are able to resume humanitarian assistance programs in northern Rakhine this week.

The distribution of humanitarian aid to communities suffered by the conflicts was temporarily suspended from September 2022, but these operations resumed on January 10th, the statement said.

The Military Council ordered humanitarian organizations to halt their aid programs in 8 townships in the northern part of Rakhine State citing security concerns since September 15th last year, after the fighting with Arakan Army (AA) recurred in Rakhine State.
