Russia-Myanmar signed MOU for Ngapali resort project

Russia and Myanmar have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement a resort housing project at Ngapali Beach in Thandwe Township Rakhine State, and a range of other agreements were signed at the same event.

The MoU signing ceremony was held at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Yangon on February 4th.

Russia-Myanmar MoU signed for Ngapali resort housing project .The Russian business delegation led by Bulochnikov has already visited and surveyed Ngapali Beach, and met with local authorities.

Talks were also held about the potential for direct flights from Russia to this seaside resort. Beach resorts in Thailand both Pattaya and Phuket have attracted many thousands of Russian tourists during the last decade.

After the military coup occurred on February 1st, 2021, Russia and Myanmar increased cooperation and signed MoU agreements in sectors such as- energy, agriculture, banking, mining. But faraway the most strategic area of cooperation has been the arms trade.

Since the coup Russia has equipped the Junta’s air force with various militarized helicopters, and other arms used for a massive bombing campaign of resistance zones and rural population, which has played a key factor in helping the coup regime to survive. Russia has now supplanted China as the top seller of weapons to the junta.

Also on February 6th, officials from the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation and Junta Regime’s Minister of Science and Technology signed a MoU on the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

A delegation of Russian economists led by Vice-President Anatoly Bulochnikov of the Russia-Myanmar Association for Friendship and Cooperation (RMAFC), the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors of Treasure of Ngapali Development Co. Ltd, the Managing Director and officials of Shwin Pyaw Pyaw Trading Co. Ltd attended the ceremony.
