15 villagers including women allegedly arrested and killed by Military Council in Myinmu

Narinjara News, March 4, 2023

According to local sources, the Military Council is reported to have forcefully abducted and subsequently executed a group of 15 individuals, including women in Tar Taing village located in Myinmu Township, Sagaing Division.

"The troops entered the village and vandalized it in the afternoon. Between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM, arrests started, and when they departed in the morning, additional locals including 3 or 4 women, were abducted too. Then they killed the captives, leaving their lifeless bodies strewn along the road as evidenced”, a local said.

Military Council troops launched an invasion of the village, and upon their departure the following day, March 2nd, they took the captives along with them. Subsequently, these individuals were mercilessly executed in a mango orchard located in nearby Nyaung Yin village, locals said.

According to villagers, the bodies of Ko Tun Tun, Ko Soe Naing, Ko Kyaw Soe, Ko Linn, and Ko Kyaw Kyaw were among those first discovered following the massacre.

Subsequently, the dead bodies of other individuals who were taken captive were also found between Nyaung Yin and Moo Wa villages.

As the villagers attempted to recover the bodies of the deceased, they encountered a cruel obstacle. The Military Council troops had callously planted mines in close proximity to the corpses, making the retrieval process even more challenging and perilous.

"The brutality of these killings is truly sickening. It is a daunting task even to retrieve the bodies. These bastards displayed a complete lack of empathy towards their fellow human beings. Nonetheless, we remain resolute in our belief that someday justice will be served, and these merciless individuals will face the consequences of their heinous actions”, a villager said.

The inhumane acts of violence have intensified since the Military Council declared martial law in 11 townships in the Sagaing Region, according to locals.

Locals added that the Military Council has carried out large-scale raids and arson attacks in the past few days on Tar Taing, Myin Se, Dawei Te, Myit Tha, and other nearby villages in Sagaing Division.

As a result of these brutal attacks, many residents have been forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in safer areas.
