U Than Soe Naing, a political analyst, told Narinjara Newsthat the second meeting betweenthe Chairman of the Military Council and H.E. Mr. Deng Xijun, the Special Envoy for Asian Affairs of the Ministryof Foreign Affairs of the People’sRepublic of China, may not bedifferent from previous meetings.
“ Chinaas usual, is looking at the situation in order to preserve its interests. Wehear about the opening of the Muse trade gates. Thereare rumours that China will resume workrelated to the construction of a railway in Myanmar,” he said.
According to the Military Council, H.E. Mr. Deng Xijun, theSpecial Envoy for Asian Affairs ofthe Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, and theChairman of the Military Council, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, met inNaypyidaw on March 6 to discussdomestic issues.
At the meeting, the leaders of both sides discussed China’s assistance in the peace process, including peace talks withethnic armed groups in the border region and efforts to maintain internal stability.
U Than Soe Naing suggests that “There could not be a more uniquesituation than this but still hewill remain silent about the conflict in Myanmar. However it is generally understood that he came to inquireabout what changes will happen in Myanmar in response to the approval of the NDAA by the United States. Alsohe wants to know how the regimewill respond to the opening of the NUG office in Washington. In general, it can be understood that hecame to study and speculate on how much their Chinese -interests could be affected.”
China’sSpecial Envoy, Mr. Deng Xijun, held meetings with the Chairman of the Military Council in Naypyidaw in December 2022.Subsequently, he also met with the leadersof various Northern Alliance ethnic armed forces, including the UnitedWa State Army (UWSA), NationalDemocratic Alliance Army (NDAA) Mong La, and Kachin Independence Army (KIA).
