Military Council’s NSPNC Meets with 3 Northern EAOs to collaborate on elections and regional development

On March 22, the National Solidarity and Peacemaking Negotiation Committee (NSPNC) of the Military Council held a meeting with three ethnic armed organizations to discuss the peace conference and elections.

The United Wa State Party (UWSP), National Democratic Alliance Army (NDAA), and Shan State Progress Party (SSPP) - three northern ethnic armed organizations - were in attendance at the meeting.

During the meeting, the NSPNC and the aforementioned ethnic armed organizations discussed a variety of topics, including each group’s interests, regional development, regional stability, plans for holding elections and a peace conference, as well as potential amendments to the basic articles of the 2008 Constitution.

U Than Soe Naing, a political analyst regarding this discussion, said that China’s opinion on Myanmar is the same position advocated by the UWSP.

“ Overall, the UWSP continues to follow China’s attitude towards Myanmar. This means that the UWSP does not cooperate with the NUG in the current Spring Revolution, but remains neutral as requested by China, and talks with the Military Council about their regional rights and interests. The Military Council is also concerned that the UWSP will participate in the Spring Revolution, so they are holding peace talks and persuading the USWP to stay away from the Spring Revolution forces by discussing and negotiating with UWSP’s demands related to their regional interests,” he said.

Furthermore, it has been reported that the two sides will finalize a mutual discussion agreement

and sign it during the meeting scheduled for March 23.
