The Thailand authorities recently arrested at least 77 undocumented Burmese migrant workers from a truck inChumphon District ofthe country, said Thai mediareports.
The Myanmar workers were arrested along with two Thai drivers who were traveling on Highway No 41 nearWanthako village in Lanshun town on theevening of 23 March.
Despite the continued arrests of Burmese workers in that country, the number has not receded in the recentpast, said a person dealing with thelabour affairs.
“Burmese people come here to work as labourers. They have very little opportunities in their places. But ifanyone travels without valid documents,he/she would be arrested naturally. Despite being arrested repeatedly, the number of peopleentering Thailand has not decreased,”
he added.
According to the Thai drivers, they were picked up from Prachaup Khiri Khan and later transported to Hat Yai,the headquarter of Songkhla district.They paid Baht 15,000 to the drivers each as the transportation fees.
The Myanmar migrant workers along with the Thai drivers are expected to be taken to Lashun police stationfor prosecution under the laws.
According to the variousmedia reports, more than 400 illegal Burmese workers were arrested there in the month of March (2023).
