Auction of paintings will take place for the first time in Sittwe

Paintings by a number of artists will be auctioned during an art exhibition in Sittwe and it will be for the first time affair in Rakhine State.

Arakan Art Gallery’s founder Ko Khaing Thurin informed that the auction would take place in its anniversary celebration at U Aung Tun Oo street in Moelate ward of the capital city.

"Auction of artworks is very popular initiative across the world. With the present situation in Myanmar, it's really difficult to organise such programs. There is only one initiative reported in the past. We are organizing the ‘Art Auction’ in Rakhine State so that the people get interested in the process," he added.

The ceremony is scheduled for 1 April from 1 to 5 pm. Among 15 Paintings, which will be auctioned, include artwroks by Thura Kyaw, Shwe Thein, Aung Naing,  Aung Lin Tun, Ms Hnin Thiri and Ms Phyu Sinthant.

Khaing Thurin revealed that the original value of the smaller size paintings will be reduced by half of it. He also added that he would donate the profit to some active life-saving social organizations.

About 20 paintings, drawn with the natural beauty of Mrauk U, an ancient city of the Arakanese dynasty, will be displayed in the gallery.

Founded on 1 April 2022 by Khaing Thurin and his cousin Ko Soe Than, Arakan Art Gallery has displayed more than 100 artworks by 24 painters.
