A 14-year-old Muslim student hailing from Aka Taung village under Rathidaung township was murdered by miscreants on Friday in the palm forest near Thami Hla village. The victim has been identified as Maung Mamat Sa Taek, a grade-ix student.
The student went on missing, while travelling alone to Thami Hla village under the same township, by 3 pm on 31 March, said local residents.
As there was no phone call from the student till the night hours, the families along with villagers started looking for him.
An elder from Aka Taung village informed that he was found dead on 1 April with cut wounds at his neck. Later his body was taken to his village for burial at noon.
"When we found him, his neck has serious injuries. Now the villages are worried about the incident,” he added.
He also informed that the gold ring worth Kyats 3 million, worn by the slain student in his left hand, was missing.
Currently, the United League Arakan (ULA, political wing of the Arakan Army) is also investigating the matter. They suspect two Muslim men from Thami Hla village to be involved with the murder.
