Military council prohibits music concert to raise fund for Mocha affected people

The music concert, planned in Taungup district town of Rakhine State for the benefit of the cyclone Mocha affected families, was canceled as the district junta authority denied necessary permission.

The event was supposed to take place at Taungup stadium from 2 June till 4 June in the evening hours.

According to the organizer of the music program, they requested authorization from the district general office for the event, but the authority ultimately refused to accept it.

Their proposal was endorsed by many, including the township police chief, a local police officer from the area and a fire service officer, but the district office rejected all.

The organizers expressed regret that they did not receive the permission and hence it was not done.

Thus the initiative to raise funds to assist people, who are still experiencing difficulties after the Mocha, was prevented.

The authority even asked the organisers to  sign a bond admitting that they would not organise it. A number of singers were ready for their performance.

The music event was dedicated to the memory of  Sein Pa My from Buddha Dharma Maha missionary school. The group planned to  organize the event for the third year in a row.

This time, the tickets were priced at Kyats 5,000 for the first class, Kyats 4,000 for the second and Kyats 3,000 for the third class.

The cyclone Mocha hit Rakhine State on 14 May and many townships including Rathedaung, Sittwe, Ponna Kyunt, Kayuk Taw, Pauk Taws etc were severely affected.

Currently, millions of Mocha-affected families are waiting for food, drinking water, medicine and shelter. The military government had offered a little support and hence they are expecting donations from non-government organizations.

Taungup township was also forecast to be affected by Mocha but it survived with very little damage.

The Taungup disaster relief team was formed on 15 May and it started working from 18 May. Kyats 8,00,000 and relief materials for four days (worth Kyats over 300,000) were provided by the team.

Shockingly, the Burmese military council remains reluctant to offer full assistance to the affected families in the Rakhine localities.
