3 electrocuted to death in Rakhine State after Mocha storm

At least 3 people died due to electrocution in the last two months in Rakhine State after the cyclonic storm that hit the western Myanmar State.

Ko Phyo Min Zaw (b) Phauk Sachay (a young worker at the substation of Rathedaung town) was electrocuted to death on 13 July.

Hailing from Taungup district town, Zaw used to come for work at Rathedaung substation.

A local resident said that Zaw went to repair some work voluntarily. The blackout was going on in the neighborhood. As he started working with the live wire, he faced electrocution and died subsequently.

Another electrical worker in Sittwe (who came from the Irrawaddy region to work in Arakan State) and a common resident of Sittwe also died of electrocution on the same day (10 June).

After the Mocha, the electricity supply in Rakhine State was cut off for many days. Now the system has been repaired and it unfortunately brings sad news of electrocution deaths.

The experts have appealed to the people to be careful with the power supply in the storm-affected townships of Rathedaung, Buthidaung, Maungdaw etc where the electricity has been lately restored.
