Young man, suspected to be a rapist, arrested by AA

A young man, suspected of committing a crime of raping of a minor girl, at Laytaung sub-town of Rakhine State’s Rambree township, was arrested by Arakan Army (AA) members.

The arrested young man is identified as Maung San Nyein Own (14 years old), who raped a 4-year-old girl in his neighborhood on 22 August, said local residents.

He was picked up by AA members at around 6 pm on 24 August.

"Maung San Nyein Own ran away after the crime. But the local people were looking for him. Finally, he has been arrested. Though very young himself, he will be punished under the law,” added the villagers.

The ward administrator admitted that he came to know about the incident.

"Only thing, I come to know that it was a rape case. I don't know more about it. The victim was not questioned as she is too young to respond,” he added.

The victim, a first-grade student, is undergoing medical treatment at Kyauk Phyu district hospital. The AA is understood to investigate and punish the guilty.
