At least 10 Myanmar migrant workers, including four women,who entered Thailand illegally towork there, were arrested by the Thai authoritieson 30 August in Chumphon province.
According to a press release of the Ranong-based number 25 infantry division, the authorities stopped apickup truck in Khao Chairat villageand arrested those Burmese workers who entered without legal procedures.
They were taken to a police station along with a Thai driver, who drove the vehicle carrying thosemigrant workers.
They planed to go to Surat Thani district to work and paid up to Baht 15,000 each as brokeragefees. They admitted that half of the fees were paid and the rest was to be paid after reaching the destination.
A person helping Myanmar workers said that they knew that it was illegal to come to Thailand withoutvalid papers.
“They also know that they can be arrested if they are found without valid documents. There are difficultiesin Thailand, but it’s many timesmore in Myanmar. So they take the risk of coming into Thailand,'' he added.
According to the Thai media outlets, total number of illegal Myanmar migrant workers, arrested in Thailandhas reached ten thousand in this year.
