Rakhine has a population of 3.4 million, says Myanmar military council’s statistics

The military council releases the estimated population of Myanmar on 1 October according to which there are 3.4 million people in the Rakhine State. Out of them 1.8 million are women.

 

Myanmar's estimated population is reported as 56.2 million according to the 2014 population census.

 

Ministry of immigration and manpower also reveals that there is 2.8 million people in Kachin State, followed by 0.4 million in Kayah State, 1.6 million in Karen State, 0.5 million in Chin State, 5.7 million in Sagaing region, 1.6 million in Tanintharyi region, 5 million in Bago region, 3.9 million in Magway region, 6.8 million in Mandalay region, 1.9 million in Mon State, 9.0 million in the Yangon region,  6.8 million in Shan State,  6.2 million in Irrawaddy region and 1.4 million in Nay Pyi Taw council.

 

The military council is expected to go for the national population and household census exercise from 1 to 15 October 2024 for the national elections. Prior to it, a trial census will be conducted this year.

 

The junta authorities are reportedly preparing to carry out preliminary works in 100 enumeration blocks under 20 townships.

 

The computer assisted personal interviewing system that uses mobile tablets has been planned for engaging to collect data.

 

The junta chief Min Aung Hlaing announced during an informal meeting, held at the military council chairman's office in Nay Pyi Taw on 1 September, that the voter list will be compiled only after the 2024 nationwide census.
