At least two Rakhine youths, who were arrested by the junta forces, have gone missing and they are not in contact with their families even after a month of their arrest.

Maung Nyi Nyi San (19) along another young youth, hailing from Maebon township of Rakhine State, were arrested on 29 August from a military checkpoint on their way to Yangon accusing them of being Arakan Army members.

Ma Thein San New, Maung Nyi Nyi San's elder sister, questioned about their wellbeing.

"If they are arrested they should be to jail. But are they alive and if yes how are their health?
We want to know all these things. Let’s the army reveal everything to us,” she added.

Both of them were travelling in a passenger car towards Yangon and they were arrested from the Gwa’s Dongchaung army checkpoint at around 10:30 pm. The area is in southern part of Rakhine and close to Irrawaddy division of Burma proper.

The other youth, arrested with Maung Nyi Nyi San is yet to be identified.

The locals allege that there are several military council checkpoints on Rakhine to Yangon highway, where the passengers are subjected to arbitrary checks. On some occasions they  even have to pay money to the military personnel on duty.
