The Bangladesh authorities
have arrested a commander of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA),
a notorious terrorist group, with the
accusation of murdering Rohingya human rights activist Mohib Ullah two years back, said a report of
Dhaka Tribune.
Rapid Action
Battalion (RAB) senior assistant director (law and media) Md Abu Salam
Chowdhury informed that ARSA commander Nur
Kamal (alias Samiuddin) was arrested on Sunday from the Kutupalong camp in Ukhiya township of Banglaesh’s Cox's Bazar district.
A number of local
and foreign weapons were also seized from his possession. Nur Kamal
is understood to be the perpetrator of
Mohib Ullah’s assassination.
Mohib was the chairman
of Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPH), which initiated
the documentation of human rights abuses in Myanmar during 2016 and 2017.
He was shot dead by
gunmen at ARSPH office in the Rohingya camp in Ukhiya locality on the night of
29 September 2021.
The Bangla law enforcement agency suspected that ARSA
rebels were involved in the killing of Mohib Ullah and lately it has
arrested at least seven rebels suspecting their roles in the murder.
The ARSA rebels continue committing crimes including
extortion, kidnapping and even murdering common people in the
Myanmar-Bangladesh border areas. They have recently killed a 65-year-old Muslim
leader after kidnapping from Buthidaung township on western Myanmar
border.
