The Bangladesh authoritieshave arrested a commander of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA),a notorious terrorist group, with theaccusation of murdering Rohingya human rights activist Mohib Ullah two years back, said a report ofDhaka Tribune.
Rapid ActionBattalion (RAB) senior assistant director (law and media) Md Abu SalamChowdhury informed that ARSA commander NurKamal (alias Samiuddin) was arrested on Sunday from the Kutupalong camp in Ukhiya township of Banglaesh’s Cox's Bazar district.
A number of localand foreign weapons were also seized from his possession. Nur Kamalis understood to be the perpetrator ofMohib Ullah’s assassination.
Mohib was the chairmanof Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPH), which initiatedthe documentation of human rights abuses in Myanmar during 2016 and 2017.
He was shot dead bygunmen at ARSPH office in the Rohingya camp in Ukhiya locality on the night of29 September 2021.
The Bangla law enforcement agency suspected that ARSArebels were involved in the killing of Mohib Ullah and lately it hasarrested at least seven rebels suspecting their roles in the murder.
The ARSA rebels continue committing crimes includingextortion, kidnapping and even murdering common people in theMyanmar-Bangladesh border areas. They have recently killed a 65-year-old Muslimleader after kidnapping from Buthidaung township on western Myanmarborder.
