One person was killed in Rakhine State and nine
injured in Chin State as the Burmese army personnel launched open firing and
even aerial strikes on rural areas.
The Rakhine victim has been identified as U Kyaw Thu,
a 67 years old resident of Lay Nyin Tha village under Mrauk U township.
Family members
stated that Kyaw Thu was watching television programs at home, when a shell hit his
head killing him instantly. The shell was launched by the navy personnel from
Kaladan river.
Meanwhile, nine Chin residents were hit by an air
strike in Paletwa locality on 19 November as they were fleeing to Miza village.
The injured individuals include U Maung Hla Thein (37), who sustained
injury to his left leg, Daw Peik Kham (44), who had right leg injuries, Maung
Aung Win Tun (17), also right leg injuries, Maung Aung Ko Soe (10) with left
leg and eye wounds, Maung Linbe (8) with right thigh injuries, Aung Mayay (73)
with right knee injuries, Maung Nangyo (2) with right knee injuries, Manang (5)
with right leg injuries and Maung Roshin (13), who faced left leg injuries.
Miza IDP camp, which is around two miles away from
Taron Ai village, was also hit by artillery shells. The junta forces also
launched an air strike near the village, where they are fighting against the
Arakan Army (AA) members.
“Since 14 November, gun
fighting has been going on. On 19 November, Miza IDP camp was also hit by a
fighter jet of the Burmese army. Many including the minors were injured,” said
a local villager.
The injured individuals are currently being treated at
a local hospital in Miza village.
The AA in a statement said that their members have
been engaged in targeting various military strongholds in Taro Ai and Nonebu
areas under Paletwa township, which is close to the borders with India and
Bangladesh, since 14 November.
At least four Taro Ai villagers were killed and five
others injured as a result of the military air strikes carried out by the junta
forces on 14 November.
