The Arakan (AA) attacked
and occupied the Bodhikone border guard station located in the southern part of
Maungdaw township on the western border of Rakhine State on Tuesday.
A Maungdaw resident informed Narinjara News that the
camp on the Maungdaw-Angumaw road was attacked by AA members at 6 am on 28
November.
"There was fierce fighting going on since the
morning hours. Other border guard bases near the camp also joined in firing
with heavy weapons targeting the AA members, finally they succeeded,” he added.
A local resident said that he
saw the camp catch fire at around 8 pm. The soldiers themselves set the camp on fire after the
AA occupied it, he added.
It was the biggest camp in the area where the soldiers from border outposts
like King Chaung, Kharay Myint and Shwe Yin Aye retreated to gather there with an aim to defend against the AA offensive.
Thousands of local residents from Thayi Kabong, Shwe
Yin Aye, Kai Gyi, Bodhikone etc in southern Maungdaw localities fled to safer places
following the gun fighting.
On 16 November, the AA members attacked and occupied Dom Nyo border guard station in
the north of Maungdaw township which is close to Bangladesh.
