A 12-year-old boy was killed and his mother wasinjured when he stepped on a landmine. The incident took place in Ann townshipof Rakhine State on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as Maung Zai Nai Tun.His mother Daw Thuza, hailing from Padauk Chaung hamlet under Tet Taungvillage--tract also sustained injuries. They went to the mountain in search ofvegetables in the morning hours on 28 November.

The local villagers informed that there is an armycamp in Padok Chaung area. Both went to a jungle near the mountain and the boyaccidentally stepped on a mine planted by the army. Suddenly the mine explodedand he died on the spot.

His mother sustained injuries on her right hand. Currently she is undergoing treatment at Tet Taunghospital.
