Ann young boy killed, mother injured when stepped on a mine

 A 12-year-old boy was killed and his mother was injured when he stepped on a landmine. The incident took place in Ann township of Rakhine State on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as Maung Zai Nai Tun. His mother Daw Thuza, hailing from Padauk Chaung hamlet under Tet Taung village--tract also sustained injuries. They went to the mountain in search of vegetables in the morning hours on 28 November.

The local villagers informed that there is an army camp in Padok Chaung area. Both went to a jungle near the mountain and the boy accidentally stepped on a mine planted by the army. Suddenly the mine exploded and he died on the spot.

His mother sustained injuries on her right hand. Currently she is undergoing treatment at Tet Taung hospital.
