Three Taungup residents and a Muslim youth were sentenced to three years in
prison and also fined Kyats 5,000 by a military court for allegedly
being associated with the Arakan Army (AA).
Those sentenced include Ko Myo Myint (b) Pu Tar Tar, U Tun Chit and Ko
Aung Myo Thi (b) Ko Aung Che from Taungup along with a Muslim youth from
Sittwe township (whose name is yet to be confirmed).
The order was passed by Taungup township court on 29 November under section
17(1) of the Unlawful Association Act convicting them to be associated with the
AA.
"I come to know that the order was in the evening hours," said a family
member of Myo Myint.
Narinjara News found that the order was passed by the court after receiving
a letter from the military authority regarding their jail terms.
The Muslim youth was arrested as he was travelling to Yangon without any
document. He was initially prosecuted under the immigration laws and later
sentenced to prison under section 17(1) of the Unlawful Association Act.
Meanwhile on 29 November, the military council sentenced four individuals
including a government clerk named Win Maung Maung Phyo from Thandwe town to
three years in prison for their association with the AA.
