The soldiers launched
an intensified search
operation in Mrauk-U of Rakhine State as
they faced a landmine attack on Wednesday that killed 4
soldiers and injuried 6 others.
This morning the
residents were checked by the junta forces at 7 am
as they went to the markets and even
walked on the road, said a local resident.
"The
scared pedestrians and vendors did
not return from
the market. Now the road is blocked
and the security inspection continues,"
he added.
Till 9 am, the
soldiers conducted search
operations at the football stadium, Ah Lel Zee
intersection, Shwegu Taung intersection, and nearby areas of Mrauk-U
hotel.
The exit
of Pan Myaung village under Minbya
township and the
tractor gate used by the market-goers
in Nan Yar Kone area also witnessed the rigorous inspections.
A Mrauk-U resident
informed Narinjara News that 80 military
council troops
stayed at Ah Lel Zay school last night.
They started the search operation in the morning
hours.
The soldiers are
primarily checking if any individual is linked to the Arakan Army (AA). They
looked at the cell phones for clues if the individual had shared any
information from Rakhine media outlets.
Residents revealed
that the AA members launched
a landmine attack on a column of soldiers on
Wednesday morning near Kyauk Yit Kay ward
intersection of Mrauk-U township.
The AA is yet to make
any statement on the incident.
Following the
landmine attack, the 540th army battalion
launched the artillery shelling
in Mrauk-U township. They also engaged machine guns
in the urban areas since last evening.
