Junta soldiers raid office, arrest government officials in Maungdaw

On 15 December at around 4:20 pm, a group of 12 military council soldiers forcefully entered the office of the cooperatives & rural development department in Maungdaw township of Rakhine State and arrested one deputy staff officer and two upper division clerks.

 

This information was disclosed in the Operation 1027’s 50th day battle report issued by three northern Brotherhood alliance (MNDAA.TNLA and AA) , which was released at 11:45 m on Friday.

 

Moreover, at around 11:00 am, the fully armed soldiers entered residents of three families in Sittwe township and carried out arrests.

 

On the morning of 15 December in Minbya township, a local resident had both of his legs amputated after he stepped on a landmine, planted by the soldiers. The incident took place near a public drinking pond behind Minbya Myoma police station.

 

On the same day at  2 pm, the number 5 border guard police battalion under the military council, based in Myo Thu Gyi village of  Maungdaw township, threatened and fired artillery shells at many villages which compelled the residents to come out.


At approximately 5:30 pm, three artillery shells were intentionally fired by the battalion and those exploded between Kan Pyin Thar Si and Ywar Thar Yar villages, resulting in the injury of a local woman of  Ywar Thar Yar village.

 

It is stated that this battalion has been causing troubles for many years by intentionally firing artillery shells and scaring the civilians.
